The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named 6-7 Spared by Miami Dade County Mayor.

While perhaps not at the same level as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the commencement of a current administration.

“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a long and happy life away from worry.”

The event, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The swine, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the current slang trend of young people yelling “six-seven” – inspired by a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently named “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.

A Future Secured

The pardoned swine is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It represents the essence of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Annually, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”

Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and cafecito as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
