Democratic lawmakers Condemn Trump After He Claims They Should Face Execution

Lawmakers from the Democratic party voiced outrage after Donald Trump charged a group of Democratic representatives of being "betrayers" and stated they should be arrested and sentenced "through capital punishment" following their publication of a contentious video.

The Message That Triggered the Dispute

The video footage, shared on earlier this week, includes six Democratic congress members who formerly worked in military or intelligence positions.

"Like us, you all swore an oath to protect and defend this constitution," the lawmakers stated in the brief video. "At present, the risks to our governing document don't only come from foreign nations, but from domestically. Our laws are explicit, you can reject illegal orders, you can reject unlawful commands, you should reject unlawful commands. No one has to follow directives that contravene the law or our constitution."

The Former President's Angry Reaction

The recorded statement reportedly prompt a heated reaction from the former president.

On the following morning, Trump published on Truth Social: "It's called SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these betrayers to our Country should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In a separate message, he declared: "This constitutes really serious, and Dangerous to our Nation. Their words cannot be allowed to remain. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a subsequent message, he added: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, subject to punishment by DEATH!" He also reposted a declaration that stated: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Party Representatives React

Following Trump's comments on that day, Democratic leadership issued a joint declaration censuring the remarks.

"Partisan aggression has no place in this nation," they declared. "Representatives who appeared in the video all served our United States with great national pride and excellence. We strongly censure Donald Trump's appalling and dangerous threats of violence against members of Congress, and call on Republican lawmakers to vigorously do the same."

The Democratic leaders also said that they had been in contact with protective services "to ensure the security of these members and their families."

"Donald Trump must right away take down these unhinged digital publications and retract his dangerous rhetoric before he causes harm," the statement stated.

Officials' Firm Answer

The lawmakers who were featured in the video also issued a response.

"We serve as former service members and national security professionals who love this nation and swore an oath to defend and defend the national charter of the United States," they said. "That oath is permanent, and we aim to keep it. No warning, coercion, or call for violence will stop us from that fundamental duty."

"What's most telling is that the former president considers it subject to penalty by death for us to restate the statutes," they added. "Our service members should understand that we have their support as they execute their oath to the constitution and duty to adhere to only proper directives. It is not only the proper thing to do, but also our duty."

They continued: "The entire nation must come together and denounce the president's demands for our murder and ideological conflict. This is a time for moral clarity."

Additional Partisan Comments

The Opposition leader also censured Trump's comments and published on digital platforms: "Let's be crystal clear: the President of the United States is requesting the death of public representatives."

He added: "This constitutes an direct THREAT. All senators, each house member, all citizens – irrespective of political affiliation – should censure this without delay and absolutely."

The Republican House speaker supported Trump's assertion that the Democrats had participated in "sedition", characterizing the video as "wildly inappropriate", commenting: "This constitutes very risky, you have leading members of the legislature telling troops to ignore directives, I think that represents unprecedented in American history."

The GOP official also reportedly told media outlets that in what he reviewed of Trump's posts, Trump was "defining the crime of rebellion" but that "attorneys have to parse the terminology and establish all that."

Administration Statement

During a executive branch meeting on later that day, when asked by a reporter, "Would the president want to execute elected officials?", the executive branch representative replied: "No."

"It's important to note about what the former president is reacting to," the official declared. "We see active officials of the US Congress who worked together to organize a recorded statement to personnel of the national defense, to current military personnel urging them to ignore the commander in chief's proper directives."

She said: "The integrity of our defense system depends on the chain of command, and if that system is broken, it can lead to fatalities, it can cause chaos, and precisely what these congressional representatives ... are essentially supporting."
