Canada's Blue Jays Earn Fall Classic Matchup With the Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

George Springer was instrumental for the Astros winning the World Series in the 2017 season.

Canada's MLB team reached their first Fall Classic after the 1993 season by overcoming the Seattle Mariners in the final seventh game of the American League Championship Series.

Down 3-1, outfielder George Springer smashed a three-run blast in the seventh frame, propelling the only Canadian franchise in the majors to a 4-3 win in the series. Awaiting them are the defending champions, the team that is the current crown, in the forthcoming Fall Classic.

"I'm thrilled for our team, Toronto, our country," commented Springer, a star of the Astros team that secured the 2017 championship. "This is such an amazing experience."

The veteran has now slugged 23 playoff homers, ranking him third all-time trailing only Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (27).

"It's hard to imagine another player on planet Earth that I want up in that spot besides Springer with his October magic," remarked manager John Schneider.

The Mariners, after leading the series two games to none and three games to two, remain the only MLB franchise that has never reached in a Fall Classic.

Manager Dan Wilson stated "without a doubt that it's painful" following his side's defeat at Rogers Centre, but commended their performance throughout the year.

"It's a special team. Unfortunately that we finished on the losing end of the series," he remarked.

Toronto claimed the championship on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and 1993, and are set to host the Los Angeles in the opener on the upcoming Friday.
