Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer

Exactly 30 years since the first Toy Story film debuted, establishing Pixar as a major film company and introducing viewers to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a glimpse into the plot but leaving viewers wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang

The preview shows the young girl — who received the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a brand new plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser avoids is what Woody is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.

Surely, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?

Connections from the Previous Film

At the very least, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before departing for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. The clip shows the insignia attached to her shirt.

It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the toys.

Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
