‘Oh How We Will Miss This Man’: Meg Ryan Posts Emotional Tribute to Rob Reiner

Meg Ryan has published a heartfelt tribute to the deceased filmmaker Rob Reiner, who directed her in the hit romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally.

A Devastating Incident

Reiner was discovered deceased alongside his spouse, Michele Singer Reiner, at their home in Los Angeles this past weekend.

“We will miss this man so deeply…” Ryan shared on Instagram, alongside a picture of them together. “Thank you, Rob and Michelle [sic], for the way you believe in true love, in fairy tales, and in laughter. Your trust in people's goodness and your love for this nation are remembered.”

Court Case Developments

Reiner’s son Nick, 32, is accused of two counts of first-degree murder and was in court today. He’s being detained without the option of bail. Reports indicate that Reiner’s daughter Romy discovered her father deceased.

“It is my belief that from this horror, positive change and understanding can emerge,” Ryan continued. “Perhaps they would desire a legacy of hope and humanity, leading us toward empathy and tranquility.”

Family Members Issue a Message

Reiner’s surviving children Jake and Romy issued words today. “Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day,” they said. “The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They were more than parents; they were our closest confidants.”

Colleagues and Friends Remember

Ryan’s co-star, Billy Crystal, also paid tribute to Reiner through a message shared yesterday alongside tributes from Larry David, Martin Short and Albert Brooks.

“His skill for comedy was unmatched, his ear for dialogue perfect, and his dramatic precision was sheer elegance,” the tribute noted. “He cherished performers and improved scribes. His finest trait was granting creative liberty. He valued input and made you part of the team. Collaborators felt like a unified team. Being guided by him was an honor, yet just one facet of his impact.”

A Lasting Cinematic Legacy

When Harry Met Sally was a hit with both critics and audiences in 1989, earning over $93 million globally and scoring Nora Ephron an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay.

Rob Reiner was introduced to Michele Singer Reiner while making When Harry Met Sally. The pair were brought together by Barry Sonnenfeld, a fellow filmmaker and pal.

Reiner’s notable filmography also included classics such as Misery, Stand by Me and The Princess Bride. The director and his wife were together in marriage for 36 years.
